Why Darius Rucker is aiming to retire in 2 years

Darius Rucker’s retirement could be on the horizon.

The country superstar opened up about his possible retirement, and how he’d feel about “one more Hootie thing”, during a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show. Darius, 60, was quick to respond when asked when he’s retiring, revealing he plans on it in “two years.”

Darius explained, “I’ve been really looking at it, and I played 110 shows last year. I mean, that’s — what am I doing? And you know, I still like making records and playing and everything, but I’m really starting to like being home a lot. I like being home a lot. And so, I’m looking at maybe doing a tour, one more big Hootie thing… If we call it, I gotta do one more Hootie thing, you know? Because we have to finish at Williams-Brice Stadium [in Columbia, South Carolina]. Our last show, when we say we’re done, it’s gotta be at Williams-Brice Stadium.”

Darius co-founded Hootie & the Blowfish in 1986 with bandmates Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim Sonefeld. Darius released his debut solo country single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” in 2008. He’s since become known for “Alright,” “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” “Come Back Song,” “Beers And Sunshine,” his spin on Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel,” and much more.
