Megan Moroney said Kacey Musgraves and her 2013 debut record “changed the trajectory of my life.”

Megan, 28, said Kacey’s Same Trailer Different Park immediately inspired her. She spoke about the album — which included Merry Go ‘Round, Follow Your Arrow and more — when she caught up with Bobby Bones on a new episode of The BobbyCast this week.

“This album, I think, changed the trajectory of my life,” Megan said. “My dad and I, obviously, he taught me how to play guitar and we really connected through music growing up. And this was the first album that I showed him. And I just remember hearing this album, and I’m like, ‘if I ever write songs, I want it to be something like this,’ because how is she so clever? How is her voice so good? How is she so funny? And it seems really effortless, and it was so country.”

Megan marked a full circle moment when she teamed up with Musgraves on Bells & Whistles, which she wrote with Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter and Micah Carpenter.

The collaboration appears on Megan’s latest studio record, Cloud 9. Megan’s duet with Kacey, who will release her new studio album, Middle of Nowhere on Friday (May 1), also arrived after the pair appeared alongside one another in the “Unbroken Circle” section of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual exhibit, American Currents: State of the Music, in 2024. The “Unbroken Circle” section focuses on connections between artists and those who have significantly influenced them.

Throughout her conversation with Bobby Bones, Megan also spoke about her dream of meeting Taylor Swift, how she’s preparing for her headlining Cloud 9 arena tour (see the dates below), why she’s drawn to heartbreak songs, and more.
