Watch: Old Dominion on NZ debut & headlining CMC Rocks

Old Dominion are coming to New Zealand for the first time this March! 

The award-winning country group are finally making their New Zealand debut in March, with shows in both Auckland & Christchurch. They'll be bringing along an impressive catalogue of huge country anthems, and it's safe to say we're in for a treat.

We caught up with with lead singer Matthew Ramsey to talk about their long‑awaited arrival in NZ and their return Down Under.

Matthew said the band were “getting very excited” about coming to NZ. While he’s not an expert on New Zealand (yet), he is looking forward to a change in weather. “It's freezing here, so hopefully it's little warmer. We'll make sure to soak up as much of it as we possibly can.”

Although this will be Old Dominion’s first time on New Zealand soil, they’ll arrive fresh off headlining CMC Rocks in Australia. Their return to Australia has been eight years in the making, despite becoming record-breaking seven‑time CMA Vocal Group of the Year winners. “We're just very proud. In some ways, it's been so long, and in some ways we still are coming back over there with a little bit of something to prove. We just we want to do our best for everybody.” 

When asked how the band has stayed humble after experiencing such incredible success, Matthew said being in a band was the key. “When things are going great, it helps to have your friends there to pull you down back to earth," he then added: “It's really easy to get surrounded by people that tell you everything you do is great. As long as you have people around you that tell you the truth, it is really helpful.” 

So what can Kiwi fans expect from these debut shows?

“I imagine the energy is going to be pretty electric,” Matthew said. “You know, we're used to playing here in America and I think the energy is always great and always fun, and it's always a party. But when you travel that far, people are just so grateful that you've made that trip. So there's the energy level is just amped up a little bit extra.”
