Country superstar Jason Aldean is just weeks away from making his long-awaited New Zealand debut, with Kiwi fans finally getting the chance to see him live when he touches down this February.

Ahead of the show, we caught up with Jason to talk first-time nerves, massive hits, new music, and what he’s most excited to experience while he’s here.

Despite touring Australia in the past, Jason admits New Zealand has always been the missing piece.

“Never been. I’m excited though… We came to Australia I think ten years ago, but we didn’t come to New Zealand during that trip, so this will be our first trip there.”

The main thing holding Jason back all these years? Family life, and a very honest eight-year-old.

“I told him it was 22 hours and he was like, ‘That’s like a whole day.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s like a whole day, man.’”

Still, Jason says the excitement of finally coming over outweighs the travel. “We had a blast over there… and I don’t think we realised how many fans we had halfway around the world.”

If you’re wondering whether You Make It Easy will be played… worry no more.

“That one doesn’t come out of the setlist. Ever.”

Jason says his goal with every show is simple; play the songs fans came to hear. “People are coming out to hear the songs and hear the music. I’m not one to go out and spend half the night talking on stage, let’s go out and play as many songs as we can.”

He also teased new music ahead of the tour, with more songs expected to drop before he arrives. He’s taking a slower, more intentional approach with this album, making sure every song gets its moment.

“I feel like we’ve left some really good songs on the table in the past… we’re trying to drop the album a little different this time.”

With huge hits, brand-new music and his first ever New Zealand shows just around the corner, Jason Aldean is ready to make up for lost time and we can't wait to be there when the Lights Come On.
